Hello and welcome to a new blog. Since you are reading this that means you are interested in meditation. But being a beginner doesn't know how to start meditation. Don't worry. Relax. In this article, I am going to show you how to start meditation as a complete beginner. Since this post is just for complete beginners I will not go much deeper but will only give you pinpoint tips on how to start. So let's go!!

How to start meditation as a beginner

Before starting let's start by answering some basic questions about that i.e what meditation is, different forms of meditation, etc.

So what is meditation?

Meditation is a technique by which a person tries to concentrate, train attention and awareness, and achieve a mentally clear and emotionally calm and stable state.

In short words, it is a process to train your mind to be clear and aware in respect to your thoughts. It is used to create awareness about oneself and the surrounding environment.

It relaxes the mind, gives a clear thinking process, improves awareness.

Now since we have learned about what meditation is now lets learn about types of meditation.

Start Meditation As a Beginner


There are several types of mediation techniques. Here we will learn about common 3. You can choose any one from them to start practicing meditation as a beginner.

1- Mindfulness meditation

As the name suggests it means the person remains mindful(aware) while doing this meditation. A person can concentrate its awareness on anything that may be on its hand, breathing, walking, etc. Basically he needs to be aware of his/her surroundings while doing this meditation.

This type of meditation can be performed anywhere both with closed or open eyes. It is one of the most common and popular kinds of mediation practiced all over the world. When practicing mindfulness meditation, you observe your thoughts and emotions but let them pass without judgment.

How To do

Just concentrate on anything. eg. breathing, how you are walking, how air is passing near you, etc. Concentrating on your breath will be easier to start.

2- Transcendental Meditation

This type of meditation is performed with the help of a mantra. The mantra can be a word, a sound, or a short phrase that is repeated in a systematic way. It is performed with closed eyes. Recommended min 20 mins two times in a day.

This meditation will help you to achieve internal peace and tranquility.

How To Do

Search for some meditation centers nearby who can assign a personal mantra to you to practice or you can start by SoHum Mantra. Just say So internally while inhaling and Hum while exhaling.

3- Guided Meditation

Again as the name suggests it is a type of meditation in which some guru or a meditation teacher guides you to visualize something to provide relaxation. It is one of the best and easiest ways to start practicing meditation. Since you are being guided by someone else to do this meditation you feel more relaxed, energetic and calm after the meditation.

Search on youtube "guided meditation". Select anyone and relax.
